People are also under stress while writing a paper because of who could be reading their piece, audience has a major i mpact on how a writer constructs their paper. With freewriting though you only have to worry about yourself reading over the paper so your ideas pass on flow easier onto the page because you arent watching what your write in fear of off stop overing some bingle. You are able to fully be yourselfthroughout the piece. Its difficult to incorporate character into your writing when you have to line so many guidelines and worry about so many different things.Elbow states in his writing that you have a voice which is the main source of power in your writing, and unfortunately that voice is damped out by all the interruptions, changes, and hesitations between the consciousness and the page (Elbow). If we all had the same voice and then no ones writing would really be all that special. Freewriting helps the writer to find that voice because they are writing their look at ideas without anything interrupting them. Once they are done with the freewrite they are able to go butt and fix it up a subatomic but it will still be their voice and how they felt in the first place. Elbow makes a wide point at the end of his piece saying that you only have one voice and you cant give up on that voice no matter how much you may dislike it because without it you will never be heard, and your writing will never be your own. To me do the piece your own and to actually enjoy writing it is what writing should be about. Not the grammar mistakes, or how easy it all flows. It should be about your thoughts and how you feel they should be expressed into a piece of writing.If writing is considered such a personal thing then we shouldnt be so critiqued on every little thing throughout it. Its happened more times than not when a writer loses an idea because they were besides busy checking back on a previous one and trying to make it better. Using Elbows freewriting technique will en sure you to never lose an idea because as soon as it pops into your head you are able to write it down, ev en if it doesnt exactly belong right there. Elbow also says that his technique stops the writer from editing their piece while writing allowing the ideas to flow more easily. I know from personal experience I lose ideas constantly because Im worried about the previous paragraph, and if it was really good enough. When I wrote my freewrite I did not lose any ideas, I was able to get exactly what I wanted to say into that piece of writing and in the end if I wanted to I was able to go back and expand on them. Peter Elbow, author of the article Freewriting has helped me be able to form a more well developed piece of writing through his technique, freewriting. This exercise has helped me stay calmer while I write my paper and helps me to not worry about what Im writing the entire time.I benefit from Elbows technique this because erst all of my ideas are out on paper I am able to go back andform them into well-developed paragraphs just like I am required to do. The requirements from prof essors, bosses or whoever the audience may be will prevent someone from writing the best they can and making a piece their own because they are too worried about what the audience will think of it or if its good enough for their standards. For anyone who has trouble with forming ideas, or gets too caught up in the editing part of the paper while still writing should try out Elbows exercise freewriting and they may be affect at how well it works and how much it may help them. I know I sure was shocked at how much it helped me especially after being a little uneasy about it at first I was pleasantly surprised.The freewriting exercise is what helped me develop this paper. I sat down for about an hour and was able to get all of my ideas down with no worries about grammar errors, or my audience, all I focused on was my ideas and what I thought was best to say in this paper. After I had unblemished it I went back and turned the freewrite into this piece. Martha Brokenbrough states that the constant delectation of trice messaging jargon and internetism can certainly be a keen route to reshape the way we communicate. At the same time she writes it can also affect the way we communicate properly and passkeyly.Author, George Orwell, speaks about how we have developed words in the English language to entomb the true meaning for political executes. Orwell points out that we mask what we truly desire to say, and at the same time, we switch the reader by not qualification sense of what we write. Speechwriter, Clark Whelton, pointed out that vagueness is a growing problem in our mother la nguage therefore, college students dont know how to stop being vague while try to communicate. Even though all three writers make different points about English decaying as a language, they all concur in the ca enjoyment of this problem, laziness.Martha Brokenbrough states So the key with Internetisms is to know when its okay to use up them, when its not okay, and when not using them will make you guess clueless (149). Brokenbrough emphasizes that using instant messaging pious platitude is not bad, and it is appropriate in specific time and places, however, not learned where and when to use this lingo, can cause confusion and make you look foolish. LOL is a very common phrase to instruct nowadays, precisely when hotshot and unless(a) goes to a job interview and cant carry a conversation without using both of these abbreviations, it is not unless unacceptable unless disrespectful.The shortcuts we use may be making us look lazy and dumb when used at a courtroom or a doct ors office as examples. LMAO seems impolite and childish when used at these places. This type of jargon is, however, necessary when texting and chatting in the world today to be considered hip and normal. One thing that is important to remember is to know when to use the instant messaging lingo and when to not use it as the author claims. More importantly, she explains that it does not transfer that much longer to use the proper words when needed so that others do not opine one is dumb.Knowing when to use all these internetisms can extradite us embarrassment and make us seem cool if used correctly. Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the English language is in a bad way, but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious activeness do anything about it(446). In this quote, George Orwell states that it is not that we dont know how to properly communicate our ideas, but we choose to do nothing about it to correct it. There be a lot of deceitful w ords that political writers tend to use when indigenceing to be unclear but with the intention of making writings seem as clear as water.Orwell mentions some types of these unnecessary words dying metaphors, literal false limbs, pretentious diction, and meaningless words. Dying metaphors argon merely used because they save people the vex of inventing phrases for themselves(448). The author is explaining that sometimes in writing there are a lot of recycled expressions that we all use generally as opposed to looking for our own and being original. What verbal false limbs do is that they save the trouble of picking out appropriate verbs and nouns, and at the same time pad each prison term with extra syllables which give it an appearance of symmetry(449).This quote is referring to the words we tend to use as fillers and once again are meaningless to use in a sentence. Verbal false limbs are words that the writer can do without in order to make sense. Pretentious diction are words that are used to dress up plain statements and give an air of scientific impartiality to biased judgments(449). spoken communication communication like phenomenon and effective get used to pursue the writer to believe the biased thoughts you may want to get across.Finally, meaningless words are strictly meaningless in the sense that they not only do not point to any disc all overable object, but are hardly ever evaluate to do so by the reader(450). Using these kind of words is only good to conduct the reader into believing things that arent meant by the writer. All of these words are examples of bad choices while writing and once again an example of laziness. Orwell emphasizes that writers make the mistake of using all these words to express themselves, but in reality they just end up not being able to communicate what it was they rattling wanted to say. Playbacks and self-quoting (He was like, Where are you going? and I was like, Im going to work) are the most durable sympt oms of vagueness, and may find permanent homes in 21st century English(Whelton, par. 14). This particular quote by the speech writer, Clark Whelton, highlights the most common way English has become vague. Whoa, that is so wow well, like yeah and I mean like, you know are examples of vague talking and the loss of proper English. Whelton points out that younger people, tied(p) having graduated from college, lack a sense of professionalism and good communicative verbal skills.He states that it is so common to hear people express themselves with self-quoting, playbacks of past conversations, up talking (ending declarative sentences with an interrogative rise), and run-on sentences(Whelton, par. 2). The examples given are comparable with ways a child would communicate. After using these bad habits of communication over and over again, there is no doubt that knowing how to properly carry on a conversation disappears off the permanent memory. The author implies that if the problem of vag ueness had been corrected at an early age, vagueness itself would have been a lot more contained than it is now.Along with Brockenbrough and Orwell, Whelton has insinuated that writers today have lack of thought for themselves, also known as laziness. Using abbreviations related to instant messaging, words that have no exact meaning or used as fillers, or simple vagueness such as like, is wrong when wanting to communicate in formal or professional way. Not only would using these types of shortcuts make one look dumb but also lazy. Possessing the correct skills to communicate verbally or in written form is as important as knowing how to match a clothes outfit.One is under the belief that using internetisms is going to save time, but unfortunately, that is only a myth. The truth is using shortcuts saves only seconds that can make the difference in appearing dumb, lazy, or intelligent. To sound distinguished by using exotic or meaningless words, one might use as padding for our confusi ng writing, can cause one to appear dumb and lazy as well. Being vague does not help anyone in trying to clearly communicate what they truly want to say it only makes people look childish and sluggish.All in all, the three writers agree that no one should opt for easy time saving abbreviations, fake fancy words, or vagueness that plagues us, to communicate properly and not be thought of being a dumb, lazy, childish person.
